2) Reproductive Child Health Programme - II

a) Maternal Health - Antenatal care - Antenatal period is the most crucial period as the services provided during this period affect both, the health of mother and her child. ANM through her regular home visits registers ANC (Pregnancy) as early as possible especially before 12 weeks of conception. Pregnant mother is distributed Iron and Folic Acid tablets. Her Hb percent and Urine examination is carried out during every visit of 5 antenatal checkups in anganwadi centers (AWC)/ sub center, PHCs by ANM/LHV/MO, PHC. During antenatal checkup, pregnant mother’s height, weight, BP and Abdominal examinations are carried out along with health education w.r.t. dietary advice, rest and recognition of high risk/danger signals, timely referrals and institutional delivery. Every primigravida is offered 2 doses of TT immunisation while multi gravida is given only single shot of TT immunisation after 16 weeks of pregnancy termed as TT booster.

Natal Care - Natal care is important as safe delivery is the right of every pregnant woman. In public health administration of ZP Latur, efforts are on to promote institutional deliveries, deliveries by skilled birth attendants through Janani Surksha Yojana - centrally sponsored scheme, free referral transport scheme for high risk ANC/PNC mothers, promoting institutional deliveries at sub center level through repairs of sub center buildings. The construction of delivery room with attached toilet is being under taken during 2007-08. The working of 15 PHC's for 24 hours deliveries (24 x 7 PHC's) and new born care under RCH II, capacity building and skill development of MO PHC/LHV's/staff nurses/ANM's is done through BEMOC training for assisted deliveries (EPISIOTOMY, forceps delivery ) at these 15, 24 x 7 PHC's is also a step towards enhancing proportion of institutional deliveries.

Post Natal Care - Post natal period is the most important mother as some important complication during this period may require immediate attention. PNC is visited by ANM within 48 hours of delivery in case of home deliveries are monitored by LHV/MO PHC. Now a days efforts are on to increase institutional deliveries through free referral transport scheme and by offering breakfast, Lunch, dinner to pregnant mother and to her one relative free of cost 3 days before expected date of delivery and 2 days after the delivery since Dec. 2008.
